Ruby Spencer hasn’t slept in nine years.
Which makes her dream-like visitor more peculiar. Liora, an alluring immortal, professes to know the source of Ruby’s unique blood: blood that saved humankind from a bioweapon; blood that enabled her to become the government’s warrior against ZOM-B.
One of Ruby’s blood donors is the King of Darkness. And that’s not the only revelation sending shivers down her spine. With animals dwindling on Earth and his planet, the king—an ancient vampire with unfathomable powers, has set his sights on a new blood source: humans on Earth.
If Ruby is to defeat the most odious force ever encountered, she must embrace her legacy as The Tether and awaken her gifts. But time is running out for humankind and her family.
Survival teeters in the balance.

In book two, it seems as though things pick up right where they left off from book one. There is a little background at the beginning of the book explaining some of the events that took place in the first book. As someone who didn’t read book one, this was helpful.
I found the overall premise to be interesting, especially the meaning behind the title. I enjoy when book titles actually play a role within the story. Overall, the story keeps you turning the pages.
I had a little trouble with the characters at times. Sometimes I really liked them and other times I didn’t. Ruby is a strong protagonist and she was great, though I felt as though there wasn’t too much growth for her by the end of the book, despite all she and her family went through.
Overall, this is a well-written and interesting vampire story.

She’s a multi-genre author with too many ideas and characters in her head. Although, Rachel mainly writes short stories and cozy mysteries.
When she’s not writing, she’s reading many cozy mysteries. However, she loves a good fairy-tale retelling too. She also loves cleaning, playing video games, or hanging out with her dog, cat, turtle, and tortoise.
