I have been in a reading slump for a long time. Sure, I did a good job reading consistently this past month, but I want to keep up with it. I want to read through my TBR pile and I also want to re-read some old favorites of mine.
One of the things I wanted to do for this new website was to go through books that I’ve already read and update the book reviews after reading through them a second time.
The problem is, there are so many books and not enough time. And when I say there are a lot of books, I mean there are many books I own that I haven’t read yet, many books on my TBR page, and even more books waiting for me to discover them at Barnes & Noble.
So, the biggest hurdle of a reading slump for me is that I never know what book to read next. I have so many books that I often get overwhelmed and say I’ll “decide later” on what to read. Thus, I never end up reading.
I Like Reading Challenges Once In A While
To help myself get out of any reading funk, I try to challenge myself. For a long time, the Goodreads challenge was always a high motivator for me.
I started pledging 12 books per year, then 24 books per year, and then I was eventually able to read about one book per week. I did that for three to four years before falling off the wagon. For 2022, I decided to pledge 24 books again. It’s only two books per month, so how bad could that be?
Well, I’m behind.
Since there are about five months left of the year, I want to push myself to read more. Not because I want to complete the challenge for the sake of it, but because I want to get back into the habit of reading again.
Let’s Play Bingo In August
For August, I’ve decided that I’m going to play book bingo. I haven’t done one of these in a long time and I thought it’d be a fun thing to do for the end of summer.
So, I made a five-by-five bingo board (with a free space in the middle, of course). I will try to read as many books as possible in August and see how many squares I can cross off.
I’ll share updates of my bingo board on each book review I publish in August and on the right sidebar. Also, I’ll share updates on my Instagram.
Feel free to play along with me. I’m curious to see what books you guys will read throughout the month.
What do you get if you get five squares in a row or clear the board? Bragging rights! Also, plenty of new books to add to your TBR pile if you like what other people read.
